Take a moment to remember how you felt when you read the final pages of Until I Die (Revenants #2) by Amy Plum.  You totally cried, right? That's okay, I won’t tell.  But, if you thought things couldn’t get any worse than our hero Vincent falling into the clutches of the evil, undead Violette, then think again, because I’m here to tell you that it gets worse.

It gets so much worse.

If you know your revenant folklore, you’ll know that Vincent, as a revenant dies all the time.  I mean, dying is pretty much a revenants reason for living, if you will.  So, really, dying is not a big deal.  Want to know what is a big deal, though? Burning.  And guess what Violette has in store for Vincent? Yeah.

If I Should Die picks up in the immediate aftermath of those torturous events in Until I Die. And the wait for this one, let me tell you, was torturous. I mean, I love a good cliffhanger – I do, but during our year apart, I thought about Vincent often. I hoped he’d be okay, you know, and that Violette would go easy on him.  I guess I should have known better.  Seriously, Violette goes too far so many times in this book, demented as she is. She needs to go down.

Thankfully, kick-ass Kate is not one to give up on her man.  I mean, who in their right mind would give up on a guy as awesome as Vincent? And with that beautiful hair of his too.  I digress. With the help of Bran, a healer, Kate discovers an ancient ritual that might – I say might and it’s a long shot – help save Vincent. Thankfully, alive or not, Vincent can still communicate with Kate. Which is cute. Really cute. But we need our man back for real, dammit.

Even with Vincent out of the picture, eye-candy is in plentiful supply in this book. Hey, Jules! Now, if you’ve read the novella DieFor Her, you’ll know all about Jules. And if you haven’t, well, you’ll find out all about him – and exactly what hides behind that flirtatious smile of his – in this book. Oh, Jules.  Also, Jules in NYC. Make that spin-off happen.

Do you love secondary characters? I do - and I love when secondary characters shine and have stories of their own. Maybe that’s one of the reason I love this series like I do. Plum has spent time crafting her characters over the course of this series, so much so that I care about them much in the same way as I do for Kate and Vincent.  You might think – yeah, so what’s the big deal? But I’m telling you now – making me fall in love with ALL THE PEOPLE is not an easy feat.  I’m going to miss these guys. I’ve been a big Georgia fan right from the start, and Charlotte and Ambrose – you guys! Also, Charles and his punky new revenant buddies. Love them. Another great spin-off idea!

I could seriously write about all the awesome stuff in this book forever. I loved it.  So much action (Kate totally rocks!), lots of plot-twists, a few surprises, funny times (I love the humour in these books!) and beautiful, beautiful swoony times, sometimes in hotel rooms. Yes.  Also, I have to mention how Amy Plum brings Paris to life in this series. Oh, swoon. Swoon. Swoon. Swoon. I heart Paris. And I heart, heart, heart revenants.  

You might think yourself all genre-jaded and so over paranormal romance, but you know what I think?  I’ll tell you.  I think that paranormal romance done well is the best, and, for me at least, it doesn’t get much better than this series, which gets ALL THE STARS from me.
