Venetia Gosling, Editorial Director at S&S, acquired World rights in two new stand-alone novels from Amanda Preston at Luigi Bonomi Associates. The first novel, entitled The Sound, will be published in August 2013, with the second novel, provisionally entitled Control, to come in 2014.
In The Sound, aspiring music journalist Ren Kingston takes a job nannying for a wealthy family on the exclusive island of Nantucket, playground for Boston’s elite, hoping for a low-key summer reading books and blogging about bands. Boys are firmly off the agenda. What she doesn’t count on is falling in with a bunch of party-loving private school kids who are hiding some dark secrets; falling (possibly) in love with the local bad boy; and falling out with a dangerous serial killer...
The second novel, Control, is told over a 24-hour period and follows the story of Liva, who has witnessed a brutal murder but realises that even under police protection she is not safe. The murderers are coming for her, unless she can stop them first…
Sarah Alderson published her debut novel, Hunting Lila, with S&S in August 2011, followed by the sequel, Losing Lila, in August 2012. In between came a paranormal thriller, Fated, in January 2012. She writes full-time from her home in Bali.
Hunting Lila is being developed into a feature film for international release. Film producers Jessica Malik and Jessica Parker of Pari-Passu Films have optioned the film rights to the novel and sequel Losing Lila. They commented: “Sarah’s Hunting Lila is a hugely entertaining story with great characterisation and a cinematic quality that jumps straight off the page. This is the kind of material that the film industry is actively looking for due to the popularity of the recent YA franchises. We believe the film adaptation will find traction in the international market and we have every confidence that it will be equally well received by cinema-goers as the novel has been by its readers."
Venetia Gosling says of the new book deal: “I’m delighted to have signed up two gripping new YA novels from the very talented Sarah Alderson - a really exciting and versatile author, whose writing just goes from strength to strength - and today’s film news just underlines her commercial potential.”
